30 years of La Strada

These words are emblematic of Herbert Aukam, founder and managing director of La Strada. From an idea grew a house that today ranks among the best-known hotel addresses in Kassel.
Together with the sister businesses Premotel and Parklon, Aukam shapes the company to this day — with passion and a clear commitment to quality. The path was not always easy: challenges, setbacks and outside doubts were part of it. But Aukam stayed the course and realised his plans step by step.

How it all began

Roots in Kassel
Herbert Aukam grows up in Kassel and recognises early on: those who want to achieve something need courage, perseverance and ideas of their own. With Aukam Spielgeräte he develops play and leisure equipment — its quality and innovation lead to major orders, even internationally.
- 1981
The step into hospitality
With the Café Restaurant Augarden in Kassel's Aue park, Herbert Aukam creates a new meeting place for the city — popular, modern and regularly fully booked.
- 1993
The vision takes shape
The real vision was bigger: a hotel of his own, unlike anything Kassel had seen — inspired by stylish houses, generous lobbies and high-quality service. Despite warnings from those around him, Aukam sticks to his plan. In 1993 the foundation stone is laid.
- 1994
La Strada opens its doors
A good year later the moment arrives: La Strada welcomes its first guests — the start of one of Kassel's best-known hotel addresses.
- Wachstum
The second complex: Parklon
As guest numbers grow, the Parklon adds a second complex — with a grand hall and galleries for events of up to 1,200 guests.

The third complex: Premotel
Despite every challenge, the Premotel later follows as the third complex — making La Strada one of the region's largest hotel ensembles.

30 years of La Strada
In 2025 La Strada Kassel celebrates its 30th anniversary — three decades of hospitality, grown from a single idea.

One house, three complexes
Today La Strada, Premotel and Parklon form a single hotel complex under the La Strada name: over 1,000 beds, conference rooms and a congress and banquet hall for more than 1,400 people — known for quality in restaurant, conference and event, far beyond Kassel.
