Relax in the lush green documenta city
Kassel is located at the centre of Germany and can easily be reached from all four directions – by car as well as by train. Kassel is the historic capital of the state of Hesse, having been state capital from 1277 until 1866.
Kassel is primarily known internationally for the parklands surrounding Wilhelmshöhe Palace and its cascades in the Habichtswald as well as for the documenta art exhibition, which takes place every five years.
The exhibition lends Kassel its official alias since March 1999 of “The documenta city”.
